STUDENT SERVICES

As part of the student services package, City Academy
carefully reviews each student transcript to ensure that Ontario
Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requirements and university/college
prerequisites are met. The counsellor assists the principal in advising
students on subject selection to assure that the high school transcript
will assist in university/college applications and placement.

Each student’s OSR (Ontario Student Record)
is carefully reviewed; individual needs are identified and taken
into account in program planning. Recommendations for program delivery
which were successful in the past are communicated to teachers,
and effective approaches to meet different learning styles are discussed
among school staff on an ongoing basis.
The school’s small classroom setting ensures
that teachers are able to provide each student with individualized
attention. The school’s objective is to teach students the
skills they will need to succeed at the post-secondary level, and
to assist them in maximizing their academic potential.

The aim at City Academy is to prepare students
to enter the university or college program of their choice, confident
in the knowledge that they are well-equipped personally and academically
for post-secondary studies and career success.
A full-time post-secondary services counsellor is available to assist
students in researching various academic institutions and programs,
and to ensure that applications are completed in a timely manner.
The counsellor can also assist students in identifying their interests
and abilities, and help them to identify relevant academic fields.
Students have ready access to her research skills, thus
negating in many cases the need for consultation outside of the
school. Our goal is to expose our students to as many choices as
possible. This service is part of our basic fee structure.
Students are walked through each step of the university/college
application process. Applications to Ontario colleges and universities
are completed through the school. Students may sign up for sessions to
complete applications to other Canadian universities. Assistance
with international applications is available by appointment.
Guidance support is available for students applying
to programs that require a portfolio or supplementary application
(i.e. some business programs, fine arts programs, etc.).
